The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland (CPA) represents over 5,000 members and students. ‘CPA' is the most commonly used designation for professional accountants worldwide. CPAs are qualified to work in Ireland and around the world in public practice, industry, the public sector, financial services and in public and private companies.
In addition to a structured course of academic study, trainees are obliged to undertake three years supervised, practical training in a work environment to qualify as a CPA. This training does not specifically need to be undertaken in an accountancy practice as the Institute also recognises work experience undertaken in wider business and public sector environments. The majority of students work, train and study in tandem however, work experience can be undertaken concurrent to academic study or thereafter.
Accountancy is one of the most reliable professions in terms of employment and there are still plenty of opportunities out there for qualified graduates both in Ireland and abroad.
Qualified CPAs are very much in demand with over 2,000 businesses and practices employing CPAs including global companies such as Glanbia, State Street, Microsoft and Apple among others.
CPA students range from school leavers to college graduates, to accounting technicians, to mature students seeking alternative career paths. The flexibility of the study and training programme means that students can start classes right away and build their training record as work becomes available. In some cases, previous employment counts towards training.
CPA offers students flexible study options. CPA students can choose part-time, full-time, weekend, distance and E-Learning programmes, or any combination of these.
CPA Students can opt to study in 24 CPA Approved Educators located throughout Ireland. Educators have been approved by the Institute on the basis of the suitability of their tuition and their commitment to providing student support. |
